Our Mission statement:
Our mission will be to love the Lord our God with all of our heart mind and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. We will establish places where God our heavenly father is worshiped, where Jesus Christ His only Son is glorified, and where the Holy Spirit is free to work effectively. Our churches will be places where the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is administered with grace and mercy and where the truth of the Word of God, the holy Bible is proclaimed to edify and build the Body of Christ in love.
What We Believe:
We believe as the apostles of Jesus Christ did, that is, that God is the one and only God, who represents Himself in three different persons; The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, (1 John 5:7).
We believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God, sent to this earth to save or rescue mankind (John 3:16,17). We believe that there is only one way to God and that is by faith in His Son, Jesus Christ (1 John 5:12); through the working of the grace of the Holy Spirit in ones life (Ephesians 2:8, 1 Corinthians 12:3).
We believe in the awesome power of the Holy Spirit, who was sent to this earth (Acts 2:1-4) to empower the believer (Acts 1:8), to inhabit the believer and lead the believer into all truth of the Word of God (John 14:17-21, John 16:13), and that He is working in the world today, not only in the believer, but in the unbeliever (John 16:7-11).
We believe that the truth of the words of the Apostles Creed handed down by our forefathers says it all. We recommend that you learn this creed and say it often as a statement of faith in what you believe. This creed comes from doctrinal truths in the holy Word of God, the Bible, and goes like this:
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of Heaven and Earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
He descended into Hell.
On the third day He rose again;
He ascended into Heaven,
He is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Christian church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. AMEN
Who we are:
We are different people from all walks of life who have come back to God by grace through faith. We are nothing special, but we know someone who is very special and His name is Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God.The Bible says that mankind is separated from God by an impassable gap called sin. We cannot get to God on our own. Jesus is the one who bridges the gap and makes the way back to God. You just have to believe in Jesus Christ and make Him Lord of your life.
Our services are casual, no need to dress fancy unless you want to. Our musicians lead the congregation in contemporary Christian music, however, we still love the old hymns of yesterday, which will never be outdated.
History:
Northern Lights Missionary Outreach was founded by Pastor Fred Soyring under the direction of the Holy Spirit in 1977. That year the congregation met, under the name of Richwood Village Church, in a small church building in Richwood, Minnesota. Two years later, the congregation outgrew the small church and purchased the school building across the street. Three additions were gradually added over the next years to accommodate the growing congregation.
In 1979, Pastor Fred visited the Blue Mountain Christian Retreat Camp in Pennsylvania. While on his knees in the prayer tower, God gave him a vision. The vision gave direction for the congregation at Northern Lights and the words that accompanied the vision became the mission statement of the church. (Matthew 5:14-16, Mark 16:15) The vision was of a branch stretched out like the fingers on a man’s hand. The branch stretched across Northern Minnesota. The words accompanying the vision were:
Where there is a bright light, we will blend with it.
Where there is a dim light, we will add to it.
Where there is no light, we will start a light.
Pastor Fred came out of the prayer tower knowing the church’s mission was to be a light in this world, to help and add to other church bodies who had the same mission, and to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all. The emphasis of our mission field would be in Northern Minnesota. At this time, the name of the Richwood Village Church was changed to the corporate name of Northern Lights Missionary Outreach.
In 1981, land became available ½ mile east of Richwood, MN and the congregation took a step of faith and purchased it for a new building. There was no doubt in Pastor Fred’s mind that this was to be the site for the new building because in 1972, while driving past this land, he heard in his spirit the words, “This is where you will give up your life.” (This was the Holy Spirit speaking to him regarding things to come in his life. He did indeed ‘give up his life’ as he ministered on this spot as Senior Pastor of the church for 21 years until he went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2003.)
In 1982, money was raised during a tent meeting on the grounds for the new building. The footings were started and the new building was under way. The 13,300 square foot building was erected with all volunteer labor and was financed with tithes and offerings. At this time the new building and assembly was called Northern Lights Tabernacle.
In January of 2012 the building and assembly was renamed Northern Lights Freedom and Life which it is today. The building was built to be an outreach center for the work in Northern Minnesota. Many ministries have had their start here. They have gone on to preach the gospel not only in Northern Minnesota but to the uttermost parts of the earth. At this time, the corporation of Northern Lights Missionary Outreach and Northern Lights Freedom and Life church and the vision of both continues to go forward. Praise the Lord!!!
